Wistia’s compliance with WCAG AA guidelines has always been a central part of our offering, to make sure that your videos are accessible to a wide range of audiences. Which is why we’re thrilled to now offer the ability to order Standard and Extended Audio Descriptions (XAD) directly through Wistia.

Standard Audio Descriptions use the natural pauses in a video to provide audio explanation of non-verbal elements, while Extended Audio Descriptions pause the video to provide more detailed description of non-verbal elements of your video. For example, if you have a product tutorial video for your app and show how to access a certain feature, the video will pause to describe where you’re clicking and what else is on the screen so your audience can follow along.

What is the cost and timing?

Standard Audio Descriptions are $8 per minute and typically have a 5 day turnaround time. 
Extended Audio Descriptions are $12 per minute and typically have a 5 day turnaround.
You will receive an email once your video is ready.

How does it work?

1. Upload or record your video to Wistia

2. Make any necessary edits (trimming, added media, music, captions)*
   *This is very important to do before placing your order, because any edit changes made after will mean losing your Standard/XAD, you can still customize after your order

3.  Head to the Customize panel and select AD for Audio Description

4. Select Standard or Extended Audio Description, then click Order

5. Include any relevant terms that will help with the transcription (i.e. - spelling of product names, people, technical vocabulary or special terminology)

6. Place your order

7. Look out for an email notifying you that your extended audio description is ready
