On February 24th, 2020, we’ll be removing support for static HLS asset retrieval. What does that mean? Well, you won’t notice any visible changes to playback or performance, but this will affect any hardcoded m3u8 assets you may have in your service.

In just a few weeks, our on-demand video repackaging service will begin to generate HLS assets from MP4 assets (previously, we generated a static m3u8 with a reference to static ts assets). After this change, we can still provide m3u8 assets, but the request structure will be changing.

Rest assured, if you do hardcode these assets we will be in touch with account owners via email. If you aren’t sure, please reach out to any of your team-members responsible for any technical infrastructure that manages Wistia videos.

If you do hardcode m3u8 asset URLs, please refer to this support document and review the section called “Getting HLS assets.“

Please make any changes by February 21, 2020, otherwise you won’t be able to retrieve m3u8 assets for videos uploaded after February 24, 2020.

Please reach out to Support with any questions!
